Jerky! |
Way back in January, Naomi and Bill from the Cities graced us with their presence for a visit. Based on the pics, all we did was eat, but we did also hit a few thrift stores and N. + B. attended a Father John Misty concert.

Croque-monsieur at Sardine |
Time for a little food trivia: Croque-monsieur comes from the verb
croquer, which means "to crunch," and
monsieur is obviously "mister." So when you order one of these high-falutin grilled ham and cheese sandwiches, you're eating a Mister Crunch. If you add a fried or poached egg, it becomes a croque-madame. Its first recorded appearance on a Parisian menu dates to 1910, and it was first mentioned in literature in 1918 in Marcel Proust's
In Search of Lost Time.
I think they may have also brushed the bread on this one with egg because it had a little crust on the bread--more than you'd get with butter alone.
