Laura's July Visit

Laura tore herself away from her little Penny for a few days recently. As a special treat, we indulged in Muramoto, choosing à la carte items from the Restaurant Week menu, as well as favorites from the regular menu.

Seaweed salad

Chilled oyster trio

We started with the seaweed salad and the chilled oyster trio. From the left is the Thai relish, the cucumber granita, and the red wine mignonette threads. Our favorite by a far cry was the Thai relish. The other two were bland by comparison, but the Thai relish had the just right amount of garlic and spice. I wish we could've had all three with the Thai relish topping.

Deadly catch roll
Laura ordered her favorite roll, the deadly catch. It consists of tempura king crab, tobiko (flying fish roe), and wasabi mayo. I would definitely order this again.

Foie au poivre with blood orange, spinach, and rye croute
I had a bite of this, and it was yummy.

Marinated + grilled red wattle pork shoulder ssam with kimchi + vegetables

Ssam is a Korean lettuce wrap. The kimchi was lovely, but the pork shoulder was a bit on the tough side. It's a tough cut, so perhaps it wasn't cooked slowly enough. The seasonings and the sear on the outside were great, though. The lettuce could've also been a bit fresher.

The above isn't from her most recent visit. It was from a previous grrrls' night when we did French green clay masks, watched movies, and drank entirely too much.

Failure: Roasted Green Tomatoes

This soup was an utter failure.  I roasted a bunch of green tomatoes, thinking I could salvage them from the fall garden. I'd make roast...
